What a Week!

The Purefoy Library has changed a lot in the past few days...

Tuesday: Our first day in the building - I unpacked a few boxes of things for the workroom and arranged all our shelves.  Luckily the beautiful dark work shelving is all on wheels!

Wednesday: The books arrived!  232 boxes of books for our opening collection were delivered, all labeled, color-coded, and in call number order.

5 pallets of library books sure take up a lot of room.

Thursday: Shelving Day!  From 8:00-3:00 a team from our book vendor Mackin helped get the collection on the shelves while a few library friends helped with little projects too and our wonderful custodial staff helped keep everything looking neat and clean.

Thursday Morning:
Lots to Do!

Mrs. Matlack, our library aide, especially enjoyed processing the animal books donated by the Corbell PTA.

Thursday Afternoon:
Over 8,000 books are ready and waiting to be checked out soon. :)

Next week we should get a circulation desk, computers, and another pallet of books to add to the shelves.  We're almost ready for school to begin!

1 Month/100 Books

Can you believe the first day of school is almost here?  A month from today the 2010-2011 school year will begin at our brand-new school.  There's a lot to do between now and then in the library, but I can't wait!

If you're looking for a few more books to read during these last weeks try the titles below - it's a list of the Top 100 Children's Novels from a School Library Journal web poll earlier this year.  I've read 75/100 (bold) and already have a few others from the list waiting on my bookshelf. Too bad I only read the first Harry Potter - reading them all would put me at 80%.

Another Peek at Purefoy

The staff of our new school got to tour the building last week and everything is looking good.  A lot has been done since I visited back in April.  It's still missing the furniture, technology, and library books - but that should all arrive by the end of July.

I can't wait to see the finished building.  Can you believe there's only one month left until we set up the library and seven weeks until school starts?

Welcome to the Library!
This a view from the entrance, the wires on the floor mark the location of the circulation desk.

Story Area
This is where we will read stories and conduct class lessons. New trees and green grass fill a small field behind the library.

Tables and Stacks
Tables will be in this center area for reading and research.  Tall bookshelves will line the far walls and shelves will fill the rest of this area.  You can see the main hallway and office through the windows.

Circulation Area
The self-checkout area, information desk, and shelving carts will be here.

Library Workroom
This is the office behind the circulation desk where we will process new books, repair damaged books, place book orders, and store supplies.
