Monster Match: Using art to improve writing

Our third graders met every week during the month of October to work on their Monster Match Project.  The students drew a picture of a monster, and then they had to write a descriptive paper describing how to draw their monster.  Then we exchanged papers with another class, and the students drew another student's monster after reading that student's descriptive paper.  The final week of October we all met together to compare our monsters.  The students had a lot of fun, and they learned how important descriptive words are in their writing!
